The Shoal Hotel was a lovely surprise. The decor felt modern and very inviting. The location made it easy to walk just a block to the beach, perfect for my morning coffee routine. I really appreciated the friendly front desk staff. they were always ready to help. I enjoyed some sweet touches during my stay, like being randomly chosen as the Guest of the Night, which came with free snacks and a bike rental. My room was newly remodeled, but I did notice some noise from adjacent rooms. The only downside was the parking. it was a little tricky to navigate and cost $10 a day. There seemed to be some street parking available, which might work out better if you’re lucky. I would definitely recommend The Shoal for anyone looking for a budget-friendly getaway near La Jolla without sacrificing charm.

We had a fantastic stay, especially enjoyed the beach chairs and umbrella we borrowed from the front desk. Plus, the staff was genuinely friendly. They really went above and beyond to make sure we felt welcome.

It wasn’t exactly low-priced, but definitely worth it for the quality we got.

We loved being able to walk to the beach and watch surfers every morning. Exploring the Torrey Pines State Reserve was a highlight, too. Our room was clean and spacious, making it a great spot to hang out after a long day.

The only downside was the parking situation. It filled up quickly at night, so getting back late could be tricky.

A more functional lighting setup would enhance the overall atmosphere, as the current setup felt dismal and did not meet expectations for a family getaway.

However, the motel-style room access provided little privacy, especially with a barn door bathroom that didn't close tightly. Parking was a bit tricky due to ongoing renovations, and the hard pillows disrupted sleep.
